Essex Terraplane's Blog

First, I need to admit that this is not a site about Essex Terraplanes. I was in a class, learning to create a blog, and this was the first name I tried that was available. Sorry if you were misled.

However, for the curious, I can explain the name. The Essex was Hudson Motor Company’s low-priced line, beginning in 1919. In 1929 the Essex displaced Willys-Overland’s Whippet for third place in national sales, behind Chevrolet and Ford. (In 1930, Buick was in third place; Plymouth captured third place in 1931 and held it until 1954, when Buick took it back.)

The Essex Terraplane, slightly upmarket from the low-priced three, was introduced in 1932. Aviatrix Amelia Earhart christened the new line, and Orville Wright took delivery of the first Terraplane off of the assembly line. Like most Hudsons, Terraplanes offered value for money — they were comfortable, well-built and powerful. In 1933 the name Essex was dropped, and the Terraplane line went on until 1938, when it was rebadged as the Hudson 112.

Thanks, JiSeon — the open-road pic was a spur-of-the-moment choice, based more on the shape of the space than on any real intention, but it suits me exactly.

I’ll keep the name for my “outside” blog. Eventually I’ll want to host a blog from my own domain, but I need to figure out how this one works before I put that on my to-do list. BTW, my screen shows me a little red “Reply” underneath the incoming comment, and it also appears in the little command line under the comment in the Dashboard view.

I like the name of your blog actually. I am still working on finding the place on my dashboard where I can comment back to a comment. Looks like are need the next class!

This is a very nice looking blog. I noticed that I have to post my email and my name and website in order to post. That is probably a default setting that you may or may not want.

Thanks, Dawn — I don’t intend for folks to post their entire pedigree before they talk to me. I found the setting that was responsible, and I changed it. If I’m understanding things correctly, that will have fixed it. Try again and let me know what happens.
